news worthy

hah! i knew it. today's headlines were on how studies have shown that the TAF program indirectly causes eating disorders in school children. this has been on my mind for the longest time, this recent slew of slimming ads and products in the media. it seems that they're trying to say you aren't a perfect, complete, whole and beautiful person if you're *gasp* fat. it's WRONG to make someone feel inadequate about themselves. why should you feel any less about yourself just because you're a different shape from others?

of course, we all know the health benefits of being in shape, being fit, eating right, ladida. but to tell people that unless you look like christy chung you're a failure, you're ugly and fat? oh come on!

shylock had the idea when he said "If you prick us, do we not bleed? if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison us, do we not die?"

i guess i feel so strongly about it because the Lord's given me revelation about the power of words, and probably cos i've gone thru my fair share of ribbing when i was in primary school. these incidents will really stay with you for life... i can still remember vividly how i was on the verge of tears, chasing my classmates around the parade square cos they were poking fun at my name... how cruel we can be when we're young and we don't know better! i suspect this cruelty is inbuilt into us... no wonder the Lord tells us not to be conformed by the world but be transformed by renewing our minds in the word.

even yesterday at lunch... jason and the guys were just casually asking everyone about waist sizes...sigh and just cos mine was the biggest, they had to make fun about it. even tho' i know they didn't mean it, it still stung.

i can't even begin to imagine how anorexia and bulimia must feel like. how it's like to cope with something as demonically inspired as that, and how it can destroy families, friends, and lives around you. the devil has definitely got a hand behind this slimming-mania that has blanketed our society.

Lord give me wisdom to deal with this. teach me, teach my children. give us immunity to the ways of the world, and let us ride on top of the waves of life.
